Tom Nelson announces candidacy for Thurston County Treasurer

Tom Nelson today announced his candidacy for Thurston County Treasurer, saying “I will bring my private sector financial experience to the Treasurer’s office, working for all citizens with great integrity, honesty and efficiency.” Tom will run as a Republican.

“I plan to use my education and business knowledge to bring innovation and efficiency to the financial sector of our local government.  I grew up in Thurston County and it is important for me to see our community continue as a quality place to live, work and raise a family,” Nelson added.

Tom lived most of his life in Thurston County.  He is actively involved as a community leader.  He is a member of the Rotary Club of Lacey serving as the Public Relations Chair, and serves as the Treasurer for his Homeowners Association.  He served as a member of the Olympia School District Facility Advisory Committee, a former Scoutmaster, and a youth leader of his church.  Tom is an instructor and coordinator of the AARP Tax-Aide program at the Olympia Senior Center, and also works as an adjunct professor at Saint Martin’s University teaching finance.  Tom works as a Vice President and Commercial Loan Officer for Thurston First Bank in Olympia.  Early in his banking career, Tom was President of Young Credit Professionals, a club of young bankers within the nationwide Risk Management Association.

Luke Esser calls for Grass Roots Support of Rob McKenna PDF Print E-mail

Dear Friends of the State Committee,

Christine Gregoire and her liberal allies in Olympia have declared war on Attorney General Rob McKenna over the last 24 hours because he has dared to challenge the unconstitutional mandates contained in the ObamaCare bill, which is sacred to the political left.

Gov. Gregoire has attacked McKenna, not on legal grounds, but because she has been seeking a presidential appointment in Washington, D.C. for more than a year now and is doing everything in her power to please the Obama Administration.

She’s even supporting legislation to ban the Attorney General from filing a lawsuit to defend the constitution (which is itself unconstitutional!).

We all need to do everything we can to support AG McKenna in the face of this liberal onslaught. You can let the grassroots in your county know that one tangible thing they can do is to send a message to the Attorney General’s Office thanking McKenna for defending the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution at this link.

We'll keep you posted on further developments. All the best,

Chairman Luke Esser

Heck Takes Position on Health Care Bill PDF Print E-mail

Heck Takes Position on Health Care Bill -- After the Vote

Only after the fact does Democrat Denny Heck let his views on legislation be known

Vancouver, WA -  Three weeks after he was asked to take a position, Democrat Denny Heck - who wants to be the next Congressman for Washington's 3rd District - finally decided he supports the health care reform bill that passed the House on Sunday night.

David Castillo, who has publicly opposed the legislation for months, called on his Democratic challengers to take a clear position on the bill more than three weeks ago - in a press release dated February 26.  Castillo has consistently supported free-market solutions to reduce costs and increase coverage for those Americans without health insurance.

Heck had declined to take a firm position in support or opposition until he was confident it would pass and current Congressman Brian Baird had voted for it.  Baird announced his retirement in December and knew - when he voted for the bill on Sunday - that he would not be facing the voters again this November.

Castillo believes that indecision as a candidate, on a piece of legislation of this magnitude, gives insight into how a person will legislate when in office.

Leaders are out front and open about who they are and what they believe.  The people of the 3rd District will never have to guess how I'll vote when the choice is between more government or more freedom," asserts Castillo.  "I will stand with the people and choose freedom every time."

Castillo currently works as a financial advisor with Edward Jones.  He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and is a member of Rotary International, the VFW and the American Legion.
